About our meat pies

First of all please note that all our meat pies are delivered already baked and frozen by default. If for whatever reason you want them delivered at fridge temperature for immediate warming and consumption then we can simply defrost them for you prior to dispatch. We can even heat your pies up for delivery hot and boxed for which there is a small charge per pie.

Here are some tips from Santi for making sure her pies arrive on your plate in tip-top condition.

Gravy

All meat pies go best with a little gravy – ladies, you know what to do! If however you generally wear long trousers then we strongly suggest you get a simple gravy powder mix from almost any Jakarta supermarket these days when you just need to add water, stir and simmer for a minute. Or get your maid to do it!!

Storage

Put any pies you receive not intended for immediate use into your freezer immediately upon receipt. Once taken out of the freezer our pies can be kept for up to 4 days before consumption so long as refrigerated. Do not refreeze once thawed. “Best before date” can be found at the bottom of the pie packaging.

De-frosting and warming your pies

How long you need to defrost and/or warm your pies is summarised in the following table.

Some further thoughts on each of the warming methods

Oven – Using the traditional oven is the way to achieve “pie perfection” including retaining the crust’s condition – but it takes significantly longer than the other methods of course. The oven must be preheated to 180 degrees centigrade. If you like the the pie base to be a little crustier then put the pie upside down in the oven.

Microwave – really quick of course but significantly softens the pie crust though many  people are perfectly happy with this as a trade off for the quick heating time.

Air fryer – a relatively new device and one we have tried with success ourselves and it indeed comes highly recommended by several of our customers who maintain that they get a perfect pie every time, without softening of the crust. A little on the pricey side at around 1.5 million but even available in Jakarta now from the likes of Lazada. Highly recommended if you don’t have an oven.

Sandwich oven – available from the likes of Ace hardware from around 400,000 rupiah. Again use of the sandwich oven leads to a little softening of the pie pastry but not nearly as much as microwaving.

Remember that all our pies MUST be removed from any packaging (ie box/aluminium foil tray/vacuum packing plastic) before warming in any fashion.

Please follow this guidance and enjoy my pies at their very best! …. thank you, Santi xxx
